Malt: The beloved flavour of Africa

While ULTIMALT is new to South Africa, using the finest barley malt for nourishment is an ancient African tradition that goes back decades. Malt’s natural health benefits have enjoyed increasing awareness in recent years and the benefits for a wide variety of people are clear.

Malt is not only empty sugar but rather a functional ingredient that serves as a source of antioxidants, essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals, and is made with whole grains. As an added benefit, malt has a significantly lower glycaemic index than regular refined sugar, yet still delivers a delicious sweetness. It is also an excellent source of fibre, which helps improve digestion and enhance digestive health. Studies show malt extract facilitates the growth of probiotic cultures which can help prevent illness and promote essential nutrient absorption, enhancing overall health. The high fibre value of malt, along with the vitamins and minerals it boasts such as copper, iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B1, B2, B6 and B12, have been shown in studies to decrease heart disease and cholesterol and improve bone health.

Family Friendly

Malt is one of the most lactogenic foods, widely known to promote milk production in expectant and nursing mothers. Scientific studies show that malt beverages have a definite advantage in producing ample breast milk. Malt made from barley helps the secretion of the prolactin hormone, and prolactin hormone increases lactation.
