The Adventures of Riverlea Farm is a book series about a farm in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal. The books are well-suited for children from 2 years of age to those who are reading at a second/third grade level. As a speech language pathologist for the past twenty years, I have seen first-hand the benefits of language rich homes. Research shows that children who are read to have better overall academic results once they reach school.
The Adventures of Riverlea Farm are rich with rhyme and balanced syllables to increase a child’s sound awareness (phonemics) and improve reading (pre-literacy) ability. It has been estimated that there is a “million word gap” between children by five years of age who have never been read to and those who have been exposed to five books a day (Logan et al., 2019). It is my aim to help bridge this gap with the goal of one book a day!
