How to deal with anxiety amid the coronavirus outbreak?

We at Brainline understand that some of our students and learners may be experiencing more stress than usual – due to fears about COVID-19.  We would like to share some ideas and tips on how we as adults and caregivers can assist our students, learners and children during this time.

Children tend to react on what they see from the adults around them. When we remain calm and confident – we enable ourselves to give our children the best possible support.

It is important to limit anxious children and students’ exposure to news coverage of the outbreak – share facts that are age appropriate and that they will understand and remember to reassure them that they area safe.

It is very important to stick to your routine. Even with a lot of changes and some activities closing down for a while – create your own, new, fun routine and activities to do as a family.

Don’t completely isolate yourself – although isolation is recommended to prevent contagion – maintaining relationships and social support are good ways to counter act anxiety. Keep up social interaction using FaceTime, Skype, phone calls and text messages.

Exercise and physical activities are always recommended to reduce stress and anxiety – maintaining physical activity will help to keep anxiety down.

The most important tip is to stay healthy! Adopt healthy habits such as regular hand washing using soap and water for about 20 seconds. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Also remember to eat healthy foods to support your immune system.

Should you or a student need any additional support, guidance or social contact during this time – you are welcome to book an online ZOOM session with me, the Mentor. https://calendly.com/brainline_mentor/15min
