What a lovely set of story books set in the heart of Africa.  We all enjoy reading to our children and what better way to educate your child about Africa than through this delightful series.

The stories are nice and short which we found was perfect to keep the attention of a child ranging between the ages of 5 and 11 years. The author Fatuma Abdullah has taken great care in sharing the character Akiki’s, journey through;

Each story touches on teaching your child various lessons. There are are questions as well as an adventure map in book to show your child where Akiki is off to next. The book also features Key words together with the pictures to explain the african words and phrases used throughout the books thus increasing your child’s vocabulary as well as knowledge on Africa.

Then to top it all off there is a single book with short stories in it as well…

Akiki’s Short Stories

In this book, there are 3 short stories to share with your child.

In the first story, Akiki finds a gold watch and aims to return this valuable possession to the rightful owner.

The second covers Akiki getting lost in the shops one day.  This is a wonderful lesson for all our children to learn and the topic was covered beautifully.

And lastly the last story covers Akiki getting everyone involved in collecting old toys for the children’s hospital, certainly a topic that every child can learn from.
