General

Brainline is an online education provider that offers a CAPS-compliant and IEB-recognised curriculum to learners from Grade R–12, which is accepted at other schools and national and international universities. Our language of tuition is English and Afrikaans.

Established in 1987, Brainline is a family-run business that has grown to become one of the most prominent online education providers in South Africa, with students in over 30 other countries. We strive to be a dynamic enterprise that utilises new technologies to the greatest advantage of our learners to provide them with a learning journey that is accessible and affordable while retaining our exceptional academic standards.

Our curriculum is offered in both English and Afrikaans, with the exception of a few senior subjects. Daily/weekly live online classes are presented by qualified teachers with IEB experience, the focus of which are difficult curriculum topics.

Tests and exams are completed under invigilation and, depending on the grade, would take the form of parental invigilation, online invigilation, or writing at a Brainline Examination Centre.

We have a variety of extracurricular activities, including clubs dedicated to various pursuits, such as writing and cooking.

Academic

Brainline offers several different tuition options:

Grade R: This CAPS-based curriculum, developed by an expert foundation phase educator, focuses on learning through play and fun activities, using household items. It combines a Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills, which are addressed holistically with a theme-based approach. Live classes with curriculum resources is an available add-on.

Grade 1–3: This CAPS-based curriculum, developed by an expert foundation phase educator, focuses on learning through play and activities, consisting of a Home Language, First Additional Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills. Live classes with curriculum resources and formal mid-year and/or end-year examinations are available add-ons.

Grade 4–11: This grade group can choose between Brainline’s Comprehensive and Express tuition options. Comprehensive is a fully supported learning journey with live interactive daily/weekly classes, access to subject resources and teacher support, scheduled task deadlines and test/exam dates, and access to all extracurricular and club activities. Whereas Express is tailored to the seasoned home educator who requires little or no support and who do not want to be bound by timelines. The Express option entails a suggested work schedule, a mid-year and end-year assessment portfolio and marking guidelines for use by parents when marking the assessments. Enrolling for the formal year-end exam to receive a Brainline-accredited report is an optional add on for Express students.

Adult Matric: Obtain a National Senior Certificate in just two years. The first year, also called the Compact year, combines the Grade 10 and 11 curriculum to deliver core content so that the learner can complete their Grade 12 at Brainline the following year (see below). Adult Matric is also a fully supported learning journey, with live interactive daily/weekly classes, access to subject resources and teacher support, scheduled task deadlines and test/exam dates, and access to all extracurricular and club activities.

Grade 12: Achieve a National Senior Certificate via the IEB, accredited by Umalusi. Grade 12 is a fully supported learning journey with live interactive daily/weekly classes, access to subject resources and teacher support, scheduled task deadlines and test/exam dates, and access to all extracurricular and club activities. Brainline also hosts a Matric Farewell for its matriculants.

Single subjects: Add another subject (or more) to your NSC portfolio, or improve an existing mark. Single-subject enrolment is available in Grade 10-12 under the Comprehensive, Express and Compact/Adult Matric tuition options.

Year-end report only: Also called Report2Go, this is a convenient and affordable option to obtain a valid Brainline-accredited year-end report by enrolling to write the year-end examinations.
