Hatfield Online School is one of the oldest online schools in the country – we have been in operation since 2008. Some might say, then, that we have been around the block. Therefore, we consider ourselves experienced enough to answer the following FAQs.
- How do lessons take place? Hatfield Online School follows an asynchronous approach where students do not have set lessons at set times but rather work through the content according to their schedules. Lessons are delivered through an online platform where weeks are set out to pace the students with their academic work.
- How quickly are assessments marked and feedback provided? The school aims to meet a 7-day turnaround time in providing feedback on marked assessments.
- What if my child struggles? We have dedicated subject teachers available during school hours (07:30-14:30) to answer questions and explain concepts to the students via email and video calls.
- What tech requirements are there? All students must have a computer or laptop with internet connectivity. An Office suite is the compulsory software – with additional requirements for specific computer courses (e.g. CAT and IT). You also need a printer and scanner (EGD students need an A3 printer-scanner).
- How do we find our way around the platform? There is a comprehensive Online Orientation course covering topics from navigating our platform, to time management, and study skills.
- What curriculum does Hatfield Online School use? We use the IEB (Independent Examination Board) curriculum. This National Senior Certificate is fully accredited by Umalusi and can also be used to apply at all local and many international universities.
- When do exams take place? There are two exam sessions per year for Grade 7-11 students – June and November. Grade 12 students write exams in Jun, Aug/Sept (Preliminary exams) and Oct/Nov (Final exams).
- Where do I write my tests and exams? You write all tests and exams at home under the supervision of an adult, under strict test conditions. Grade 12s will write their prelims and final exams at registered IEB centres around South Africa.
Does your child need the kind of education that surpasses, and escapes the confines of the traditional classroom? Hatfield Online School not only bridges the gap between the present and the future, but also the gap between a world-class education and affordability.
Please contact us to find out more about world-class online IEB education for your child, from as little as R2 295 per month for full time tuition, or from R590 per month per single subject: [email protected].
Hatfield Online School is a flexible online Christian IEB high school, providing a comprehensive, in-depth curriculum to grade 7s to 12s.
With excellent SACE-registered subject specialists as teachers, our students have the world at their fingertips. Our staff are just one email or video call away, and a student can get one-on-one tuition from their teachers should they not grasp a concept.
We follow an asynchronous teaching model, which means your child can conduct their education any place, at any pace and any time. You structure your own timetable according to your unique circumstances - for example you can fit in a rigorous sports training schedule, and adjust school times around that.
Hatfield Online School is the perfect solution for students wishing to take an extra subject that their school does not provide teaching support in. We also assist grade 12s wishing to improve their IEB marks through matric re-writes or full portfolio upgrades.
Our model raises independent and responsible students, who take ownership of their learning, and who thrive in the world after school.
