At Hatfield Online School we place most of the responsibility on the shoulders of our students, to ensure that they manage their time and their schooling well. And that’s a good thing! Our vision is to produce young adults who are confident and responsible, and who will go out and impact the world for the better!
At the time of writing, our matric class has just completed the first week of their month-long preliminary exam session. And our Grade 7 to 11 classes are thinking about their November exams, which start in 2 short months’ time. Therefore, we thought it prudent to offer up some study tips.
All Hatfield Online School students have access to a comprehensive Orientation Course, which guides them through the process of becoming successful online scholars. This course also includes a unit on study skills. Here are our top tips (but our students should please go through the course in depth to feel extra equipped 😊):
- Set up a study timetable – but make sure it is realistic! You need to plan for breaks, exercise, meals and family time
- Determine whether you are a kinaesthetic, visual or auditory learner – there are many online quizzes you can take to determine which study style suits you (fortunately, our Hatfield Online School students will do this as part of their Life Orientation syllabus anyway 😊).
- Decide which summarising and memorising styles suit you best. Now that you know which study style you should follow, use that information to determine what kind of study notes you should make to study from. Our Orientation Course provides examples of the 3 Column Method, Mind Maps, Flash Cards, Word Associations, Acronyms, Stories, and even something called Memory Palace.
- Lastly – reward yourself! Research shows that positive rewards or treats associated with learning, improves the learning. So allocate treats for each milestone you reach.
Does your child need the kind of education that surpasses, and escapes the confines of the traditional classroom? Hatfield Online School not only bridges the gap between the present and the future, but also the gap between a world-class education and affordability.
Please contact us to find out more about world-class online IEB education for your child, from as little as R2 295 per month for full time tuition, or from R590 per month per single subject: [email protected].
With excellent SACE-registered subject specialists as teachers, our students have the world at their fingertips. Our staff are just one email or video call away, and a student can get one-on-one tuition from their teachers should they not grasp a concept.
We follow an asynchronous teaching model, which means your child can conduct their education any place, at any pace and any time. You structure your own timetable according to your unique circumstances - for example you can fit in a rigorous sports training schedule, and adjust school times around that.
Hatfield Online School is the perfect solution for students wishing to take an extra subject that their school does not provide teaching support in. We also assist grade 12s wishing to improve their IEB marks through matric re-writes or full portfolio upgrades.
Our model raises independent and responsible students, who take ownership of their learning, and who thrive in the world after school.
