Since 1987 we have grown and established ourselves as one of the leading Early Childhood Development Centres in the Western Cape of Southern Africa. We accept children from the ages of 18 months – 6 years. Our staff are highly qualified and specialists in early child care and education, they are the back-bone of the Centre and update and improve their training and qualifications regularly. We also assist the College of Cape Town and other educational institutions in the practical hands-on training of their Educare students.
We are firm believers in a sound academic background from a young age. This is achieved in a fun and playful environment where every aspect of your child is developed with love, consistency and enthusiastic encouragement.
The Reception Grade is the last class your child will attend before entering Grade 1 at Primary school. Each classroom has their own age appropriate daily programme operating from 07h30 – 17h30.
We offer the following extra murals to choose from:
We also have an annual Art Exhibiiton.
We offer Breakfast, Lunch and an afternoon snack. All our meals are freshly prepared in our kitchen. All meals are Halaal, are made with natural ingredients and do not contain any preservatives, MSG or Tatrazine. All classes have breakfast at 8.30am, thereafter we begin an action packed day; creative activities evolving around our theme for the week, music and movement, story and language development, numeracy, Letterland reading programme, life skills programme, school readiness and lots more.
Every Friday all classes take part in the baking and making session.
Potty training is done in our two younger classrooms.
Some typical theme topics are; my body, our family, homes, safety, senses, weather, the world and the environment, occupations, going to the Doctor/Dentist, seasons, colours and shapes, animals, height and size etc. Incorporated within each theme, auditory, sensory, cognitive and perceptual skills are taught.
Our ever popular Letterland reading programme is always a high-light of the day with the children. We start the basics of this programme from the age of 2 years and continue through to the end of Grade R (reception grade). The children who have completed this programme at Sugar and Spice are reading by the age of 5 years. Our Gr R children have additional Letterland reading classes Monday – Friday in our reading room.
