At Mount Linden School there are a maximum of 18 learners during lesson time. We follow the Department of Education CAPS curriculum used by many local private schools. It is supplemented by additional memorization work ensuring that your child’s capacity for conceptual understanding, concentration and memorization is increased with every grade.
Regular reward time allows our children to take very short breaks in between classes, where they can play and run. This increases their performance in class and motivates their good behaviour during lesson-time.
At school, children are encouraged to compete against their own standards, making them develop their potential – instead of looking to others to set standards for approval.
Safety is important for us. All school functions are during day-time hours and are kept to a minimum, reducing the pressure and stress caused by overloaded schedules. We value family quality time and healthy boundaries. Supervised collection ensures that our children are safer during drop-off and collection time.
Each day is started with a prayer of gratitude. We prefer to tell the child what we want instead of what we don’t want. Each child is given a monitoring responsibility for the class. This is to nurture their sense of belonging and confidence. Hopefully this will lower their tendency for destructive behaviours during the Teenage years. We ensure that our learners change Educators every hour-and-a-half, allowing everyone to be at their best during lesson time.
Sport is played for fun daily. Children that are talented at sport are encouraged to join sport clubs to minimise the cumulative exposure of this in their day-to-day school life. Dr. Robert Cantu recommends that competitive sports are started after the age of 14, when the period of peak myelination rates and increased cerebral blood flow causing rapid neurodevelopmental periods are over. This affects problem-solving, memorising word lists and decision making that depend on healthy cognitive development.
The school hosts professional lessons for: Ballet, Dynamic Dance, Magic Chefs, Occupational Therapy, Play Therapy, Sharky’s Swim School, Soccer Starz, Speech Therapy, Stimu-Zone laptop & tablets, Wildflames Gym Club and Yoga, Pottery and Golf.
