It seems like every career out there requires you to have a degree or some sort of qualifications. But in our current economic climate, finances don’t allow all of us to enroll in university degree programs.

Regardless of your situation, various career options allow you to get a foot in the door and climb the ladder of success. Some even come with on-the-job training or apprenticeship options to help you gain qualifications while you’re working!

To help you get started, Adzuna has put together a list of great job options that don’t require you to have a degree.

Virtual Assistant

VA’s handle everything and anything from scheduling meetings to booking travel and accommodation. It’s also a great remote working opportunity and one that you can do on a freelance basis. You don’t need much experience to start working as a virtual assistant, but you do need a stable (and fast) internet connection and familiarity with the latest tech like Zoom and Slack. If you enjoy working under minimal supervision and have a knack for supporting others, this might be the ideal job for you!

Sales Advisor

If you’ve got a knack for sales and you’re friendly and engaging, why not consider a role as a sales advisor? Some companies might require you to have experience in sales before bringing you on board. But there are also various entry-level roles for newbie sales advisors. If you don’t have any qualifications or a lot of experience, start by getting your foot in the door with an entry-level position.

Legal Secretary

Legal secretaries do legal research, prepare court forms, type legal documents, and handle the schedules of the lawyers they work for. This is an excellent option for anyone that wants to get into the law sector without actually working in a courtroom. To land a role as a legal secretary, you’ll need to be very organised and reliable. Although some roles require extensive experience and qualifications, it’s possible to find entry-level positions as well.

Customer Service Agent

If you love working with people, a customer service representative role might be your ideal fit. Customer service agents often undergo training to gain a deeper insight into their company’s policy. But aside from basic training, you don’t necessarily need any other qualifications. As long as you’re a strong communicator, friendly, and have a positive team-oriented attitude, you should be good to go.

Social Media Manager

Everyone uses social media these days, and this includes companies. Since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, brands have been forced to maximise their online presence, and to do this, they need to make the most of social platforms like Facebook and Instagram. But companies need savvy managers to keep their social media presence in tip-top shape. In most cases, this job can be done from home and on a freelance basis. If you’re smart about it, you can manage social accounts for various companies simultaneously, which allows you to earn great money.

Admin Assistant

Admin assistants oversee documentation, email correspondence, and phone calls. They might also take minutes in meetings and help with company projects. If you’re unsure of the type of role you want to perform within a company, this can be a great starting point since you’ll have daily contact with just about every department. After gaining some experience, you can always make your way up within the company.

Conclusion

While the saying “get a degree, get a job” still rings true for many career avenues, it’s not essential for every sector and role. As you can see, there are quite a few great career opportunities out there that don’t require you to have an abundance of qualifications or experience.

The majority of entry-level roles require nothing more than soft skills and a strong desire to learn and grow within the company. And if you’re lucky, you’ll find a job that offers in-house training and accreditation that’ll help you build on your list of qualifications.
