Things to do with Kids this Autumn

Things to do with Kids this Autumn

The first quarter of the year is now behind us, meaning that the school holidays have arrived and there is a string of public holidays waiting for us – yay! Enter the much anticipated Easter period: it’s time to kick off those shoes, relax, indulge in delicious treats and spend some quality time with the family. Here is a list of what is happening nationwide:

Cape Town and the Cape Winelands

Do you remember all the trees you climbed as a kid? Or the countless hours spent simply playing outside? Why not create these types of memories with your family at Acrobranch Adventure & Kids Party Venue in Hout Bay, where you and the kids can go on an adventure within a safe environment.

Ratanga Junction will open their doors from the 31.03.17 to 17.04.17 for this holiday season. Offering over 30 attractions & activities, including kids rides, family rides and thrill rides, this amusement park is guaranteed to keep the entire family happy during your getaway excursion.

The Galileo Open Air Cinema is hosting their Family Sundays, showcasing feel-good movies such as ‘The Lego Movie’, ‘Ice Age’ and ‘The NeverEnding Story’, at Kelvin Grove country club. Cuddle up with your family on a blanket, indulge in a variety of delicious treats (with special kiddy-sized portions) and let the kids enjoy special kiddies entertainment, including face painting, jumping castles and a dedicated play area with childminders.

For those indoor days, let the kids come face-to-face with giant spider crabs, allow them to be mesmerised by the touch pool and let them appreciate the magic of the ocean at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Take the family on a road trip adventure, either by car or on a steam train, to the Cluver Family Harvest Festival in Elgin, to be held on the 01.04.17. Expect tractor rides, old school kids activities (including a sack race, bobbing apples, an egg and spoon race and more), craft beer cider and wine tasting.

Experience the tranquility of the Cape Winelands at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch with a picnic in the park, indulging in wines and a selection of artisanal treats, a relaxing family lunch at one of the child-friendly restaurants, or a day at the spa while the kids meet real life eagles or enjoy a segway adventure in the vineyards. Either way, an excursion to Stellenbosch will not be complete without a stopover, or even a weekend getaway, at this family-friendly destination.

Garden Route

Prepare yourself for the happiest 3,5km run! Sedgefield is hosting the Misfit Training and Events Colour Run on Good Friday, 14.04.17, starting at the Steam Whistle Shop. Enter and experience a day of colourful joy.

Sedgefield’s 8th Slow Festival will be held over the Easter Weekend (14 – 16.04.17), in celebration of the festival slogan, ‘Family Fun The Way It’s Meant To Be’. Take in the beautiful scenery this town has to offer, bond with your family and take part in all the positively fun and energetic activities.

Whilst in the Garden Route, start a new family hobby or simply bond during a fun day out – be sure to get your fill of adventure and adrenaline with Paradise Adventures, who offer a variety of exciting activities, ranging from mountain biking to abseiling.

Kwazulu Natal

Instead of spending the day at the beach, let the kids explore our magnificent animal kingdom at the Umgeni River Bird Park or Mitchell Park Zoo; or pack a picnic basket, some blankets and a ball and indulge in a relaxed family picnic at the Durban Botanic Gardens.

uShaka Kids World is now host to the Mangwanani African Kids Spa, a unique retreat created for kids aged 3 – 13, ideal for a parent – child bonding day or a kids party. The best part is that there is a parents treatment area overlooking the kids’ spa so you can get pampered while still keeping an eye on the kids.

For an educational, ocean-themed excursion, visit the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board and be fascinated by a live shark dissection!

On a rainy day, visit the Jump4Joy Indoor Trampoline Park and let the kids go wild. While you are there, you might as well jump for joy too – it is an immense amount of fun.

Gauteng

Spend a day in the great outdoors: get active by completing a skill- and age-appropriate obstacle course, be adventurous and bungee jump or zip line and have a picnic at one of the Acrobranch Adventure Parks in Gauteng.

Take a road trip to the Vaal and enjoy a river cruise at Stonehaven on Vaal. This family-friendly restaurant also offers tree houses, a sand play area, a wendy house, trampolines, inflatables, a swimming pool and a slip slide.

Why not explore your hometown as a tourist and hop on the Joburg City Sightseeing Bus! The kids will love seeing their ‘everyday’ city from a different perspective.

Flip.d Trampoline Park in Lonehill not only offers remarkable fun on trampolines, it has basketball hoops and a dodgeball court too, making it an ideal party venue and general outing to entertain the kids this holiday (especially on cooler days).

I hope this list inspires you to go out and explore with your (big and little) loved ones!
