Breakfast is the first and important meal of the day. And getting a right kind of breakfast can impact your whole day. For babies too, getting a good nutritious start to their day full of playing and giggling is important. So today I am sharing this recipe for a quick and nutritious breakfast for your little ones. If grown-ups want a share of this delicious porridge, they have can have it too.
In the following recipes, I have cooked quinoa and oats with an apple and few dates. I have flavored this porridge with little cinnamon powder and cardamom seeds. The warm aroma of cinnamon makes this porridge a nutritious comfort food. Quinoa is one of the healthiest grains for babies. It is full of fiber, calcium, iron and folate along with anti-inflammatory benefits.
Dates are a great source of fiber. Besides relieving constipation, they are a good source for maintaining bone health and strength. Dates are filled with vitamin B6, vitamin K, folate, potassium, iron, carbohydrates, and manganese. I started giving dates to my daughter by 8 months of age. Due to its sweet taste, she loved them at the very first bite.
My daughter who is almost a preschooler still has this porridge for breakfast. She likes to add some fresh fruits and little cheerios for crunch. For grown ups too this can be a great meal to start your day. Just adding some fresh fruits and nuts, will make it a delicious wholesome meal. Do give it a try soon.

Cook Time: 15 mins
- 1 apple (sweet variety)
- 3 dates (seedless)
- 2 green cardamon pods
- 2 tbsp oats
- 1 tbsp quinoa
- A dash of cinnamon powder
- 1 cup water
Wash and cut the apple into pieces. Wash dates and check for any pits.
In a pot add all the above-mentioned ingredients.
Cover the pot and cook quinoa, oats, dates and apple are thoroughly cooked.
Once done, turn off the heat and run this through a food processor. Turn it into a puree.
Transfer it to a serving bowl and Serve.
